Starting out ten years back, solely as an outlet for lo-fi beatsmith J Saul Kane’s work, the DC imprint has since blossomed into one of the freshest and most stylistically focused labels around. It’s dance music, certainly, but not as you may perhaps know it. A world away from the clinical techno producers currently ruling clubland, DC artists like Padded Cell (who feature on this roster-wide compilation) fashion acid-fried, rough-edged grooves from the basic house and electro templates. Imagine Tom Baker on a disco excursion and you’re halfway there. Deep and demented stuff.
