The Secret Planet Compilation came about as the result of an overwhelming number of good quality demos sent to in to the Planet. Unable to release all of the decent tunes, the team still felt that there was a place for some of the stronger material - a release on a compilation intended to act as a show reel of tracks by unsigned & lesser-known artists that really deserve more attention.
In line with Silver Planets global perspective and penchant for signing new international talent, it comes as no surprise that the compilation covers artists from 7 countries across 4 different continents. Reflecting their creators backgrounds, all 12 tracks are varied and diverse both in style and production technique ranging from down-tempo beats to atmospheric breaks to straight up club music to old skool house. "The Secret Planet" has been compiled by Silver Planets leading lady of A&R, Henriette Amiel, in response to the listeners need for a compilation that works at home as well as featuring tracks that work in a club.
From the North American continent, there are tracks from Micah and Kinnder who both hail from Canada. Moving further south, a pair of 18-year old Mexicans called Andres & Xavier showcase their talents in another track. Across the Atlantic and from the UK, there are 4 tracks by artists/acts in the shape of Chris Salt, Simon Firth, Narcose & Orchid and White & Liousias. Moving further south and into Europe, there are tunes by Cedric Indra from Switzerland and by Shibumi from Spain. Over to the Middle East and Israel, there is a track by Tripo. Further into Asia and the Far East, there are two tracks from two Japanese artists called Believer and OMB. "The Secret Planet" is a truly global compilation of hidden gems - it is another side to the Silver Planet - and it is all a bit hush hush‚
The label will be releasing a series of three limited edition Secret Planet 12"s, which will be identifiable only by catalogue number, starting with SecretPlanet001. For the discerning listener or DJ to find out more information about the artist, they will have to buy the compilation to find out who the artist is, where they are from and what the track title is. This will be a challenge for all those highbrow music connoisseurs to decipher who is who and what is what. It is also intended to create more interest in the compilation and the artists themselves.
As far as fulfilling its secondary purpose of acting as a show-reel for the artists involved, Silver Planets concept is already producing some exciting results. Chris Salt, whose first track was signed for this compilation but whom Silver Planet subsequently decided was worthy of heavier investment, has been signed for a full recording deal with Silver Planet and Narcose & Orchids forthcoming material has been snapped up by Hope Recordings whilst Orchid also has his own material coming up on Gravitation Records. There will certainly be more to follow. This is not forgetting the primary purpose of this compilation - to be enjoyed - whether it be on full volume whilst getting ready to go out, or in the background whilst chilling out, in the car whilst driving, or even, in the case of the Secret Planet 12"s, as the perfect bit of hot vinyl that lifts your spirits and gets you right there so sit back, play and support new talent from all over the world.
