The 2 souls/brains behind this record come from very different musical backgrounds: DB, a professional DJ for more than 20 years has never made music before, he has always had ears to find it though. Starting as A&R consultant for Profile records in the early 90s, DB put together the 1st Techno & Jungle compilations in America. At Profile he went on to sign projects from Norman Cook & 2 Bad Mice, finally releasing Jason Nevins/Run DMC "Its Like That" which sold 4 million records, before being given his own imprint at Warner Bros. From there he had a short run as head of A&R for the U.S. version of Ministry Of Sound, where he signed Fischerspooner. He has released 11 DJ mix CD’s over a ten year period, selling well over 120,000 units. He owns & is one of the two of the creative force's behind Breakbeat Science, the production company and label giving birth to Ror-Shak.
DJ Stakka started as a DJ in 1989 and as a producer from 1991. He is a legend in the Drum & Bass underground, producing literally hundreds of records, many becoming club anthems.
His discography includes various UK white labels from 1991 - 1994. Numerous releases on Ram Records, the #1 D&B label in the world. Co-owner of Underfire and Audio Blueprint from 1997 - 2002 and now running his own label, Cargo Industries. Remix highlights include Morcheeba's " The Sea" & Africa Bambaataas "Planet Rock". Stakka is an In-demand remixer & both work weekends as DJs, playing around the world.
Both are from the U.K & live in Brooklyn NY now. “Deep” is the title of their first album project together. The style of the album? Not easily to be compared with anything else: broken beats, downtempo, soulful chill, electronic, elegant and cool jazz? Find out yourself… ”Deep” is a very well-balanced piece of music containing lots of vocals making most tracks very “radio-friendly”. To name a few of the appearing vocalists: Julee Cruise, Lisa Shaw, Chantel Claret and Mark Holmes. Julee became world famous with the song “Falling” (“Falling” was the title song of David Lynch’ Twin Peaks and till today the largest selling TV soundtrack in history) Together with The B52’s Julee took care of the band’s lead vocals at Bill Clinton’s inauguration. She appeared on The Orb’s album in the “Back to Mine series” and last but not least Julee’s voice was heard in Wim Wenders’ movie “Until the End of the World”. Together with R.E.M. and with U2. Lisa Shaw’s voice could be heard on many releases of Bruno Ybarra’s Naked Music label. Lisa was noted by Madonna in Rolling Stone Magazine as “being so cool”.
Plans are underway to tour ROR-SHAK as a live unit.
