Jackson's music career bloomed early on, with the English deep house producer releasing his first 12-inch in 2000 on Solemusic's Tronicsole imprint when he was just 19. After further singles on Glasgow Underground, Tsuba and Urbantorque, however, he was apparently close to quitting music altogether before Freerange signed "Ghosts In The Machine" up for their 100th release. They liked his recent output so much, they decided to release a full album from Jackson, which will be the follow-up to 2002's The Bionic Boy.

Entitled Crash, the LP shows his newly matured sound, focusing on throbbing deep house with a toughened percussive backbone. Explaining the source of some of his quirky melodies, Jackson explains that "a lot of the inspiration came from old records by guys like Les Baxter who did quite a few 'exotica' records in the late '60s and early '70s. I try to take influences from outside dance music if I can, as that's the basis (hopefully) for a fresher sound." The result is a full-length that is both cinematic and futuristic, but always keeping an eye on the past.
