‘Body Language’ was one of the biggest releases of the past few years, its epic, soaring bass uniting everyone from underground DJs to all the big household names.
Now Get Physical hand the controls over to three carefully chosen producers to reinterpret this great moment in label's history and to take it to new places.
Belgian newcomer Jona impresses with his version, and his stripped back, hypnotic percussion and blasts of fuzzy noise give ‘Language’ a more techno feeling. However, Jona doesn’t sacrifice the original version’s warm hooks, and although his remix sounds more off beat, the evocative atmosphere remains.
Dutch producer Steve Rachmad aka Sterac is up next, and he takes ‘Language’ on a trip to the outer limits electronic music. Live drums and jazzy keys edge the melodies of the original track into a parallel universe. It’s like Rachmad has pushed the adventurous spirit of Motor City techno music forward, but the brooding bass that underpins his version means that it will still work out on the dance floor.
Finally, UK producer Radio Slave offers a near ten-minute reshape. Rooted in hissing percussion and underpinned by a pulsing acid groove, the jacking track builds and builds to reach a trancey climax. It’s an inspired combination of musicality and electronic funk and, like the original, will bring together the underground and big name DJs.
The producers may speak in different tongues, but the message is clear: it’s impossible not to move your body to these remixes!
