Originally coming together on Pnuma Records, Lee Van Dowski and Quenum were soon promoted to Soma where they further refined their otherworldly take on electronic funk - with 'As Told On The Eve Of...' a collection that works as well in the living room as it does on the dancefloor. Bringing up the curtain with ‘Overdrill’, Lee Van Dowski and Quenum hit you between the eyes with some steely melodies held aloft by skeletal beats that are minimal without becoming sparse; a stance that resurfaces throughout 'As Told On The Eve Of...'. Able to take a bare minimum of components and assemble a fully functioning whole, tracks like ‘Little Doll Chaos Pounce Upon Option Assault Reverberation’ and ‘Dude Bond 334’ are deep and dank electro-frayed pieces that are wear their techno mantle with surprising ease. Claustrophobic in a way which creates a very real sense of suspense, the likes of 'Ultimate Desert Ambassador’ and it's relentless rhythms, the poignant melancholy of album closer 'Dune', and Luciano-esque rattle of 'Lust Part One', 'As Told On The Eve Of...' give the overall impression of plundering a fantastic record box and coming up trumps.
