A1 Critical Mass
A2 Kalimba (Geddes Remix)
As the year draws to a close, murmur deliver a second release from Nick Curly, an artist that has shared as much success of late as the new label. The ‘Critical Mass’ EP is typical of Curly’s sound, with two original tracks that are charged and engaging. This is an EP that gives thought to Nick’s musical growth and finds him holding the reigns as one of the best new producers to emerge this year. The B side, Kalimba, is remixed by Geddes, another producer whose talents are being noted. Both A&R and founder of murmur, he is also behind the Rekleiner production project and resident at the renowned mulletover parties at the forefront of the London techno scene. Geddes’ rework adds intensity and weaves in his own distinctive sound, creating a package of fresh and original talent. The dance music world has awoken to Nick Curly in 2008 following a string of releases on his own labels 8Bit and Cecille as well as Supernature and our own murmur. His ‘If You Like’ EP was murmur’s second release, since which the label has gone on to become one of the strongest new imprints to emerge from the current scene. Flirting with house and techno in a time where their boundaries are blurring, murmur’s focus is quality and the support it has received is a testament to their achievement. Next year will see murmur reach onwards and upwards in a fresh direction for the evolving musical age.
